Dr. Shettles claims that the sperm cells that lead to male offsprings, namely the spermatozoa that contain an Y chromosome, are more fragile than the sperm cells that lead to female offsprings, namely the spermatozoa bearing an X chromosome; being so fragile, they are damaged by the acidic environments, which increases the chances of getting pregnant with a girl. It’s important to know that this theory is not scientifically proven, being confirmed only experimentally, with a success rate of about 70%.

Acid-Forming Foods for Conceiving a Girl

According to the theory formulated by Dr. Shettles, the woman aiming for a girl should consume, in the period prior to the sexual intercourse, food items that have an acidifying effect on her body, the so-called “acid-forming” or “acid-producing” foods, which are not necessarily acidic by nature. In other words, such a woman should opt for those foods that make her body more acidic and, obviously, don’t harm it or the future offspring. Always ask your physician’s opinion about any aliment that you intend to include in your diet.

The Internet is full of webpages that contain charts and lists with acid and alkaline foods. Be careful to choose the ones that suit your need, namely those which raise the acidity level of your body. Here are the most important acid-producing foodstuffs:

  2. all meat: poultry, lamb, beef, turkey, etc;
  3. cheese, butter;
  4. all grains and their products: wheat, white flour, bread, rice, etc;
  5. these fruits: walnuts, olives, plums, blueberries;
  6. these legumes: beans, peas, peanuts;
  7. these foods: cocoa, alcoholic drinks, vinegar, mustard, etc.


Be aware that the acidifying diets are considered by some experts damaging to your health; such experts recommend an alkaline diet.
